Hi all, I bought these deep red 3w LED's and I have a PLC7034-04 Constant Current LED Driver. Details: Sec: 34VDC 700mA constant current Pout: 1 to 6 X 3W. Do I need anything else to drive the 6 LED's?. I was actually thinking of getting 8 red and 2 violet (wired in parallel) would this same driver still do it? Do I need a resistor? Thanks in advance.
Looks like that's an 18W driver, so just add up the voltage drops and multiply by 0.7A, as long as that's under 18W you're good. So for 8x DR at 2.4Vdrop each, that's 19.2 so that's too many 6x @ 2.4= 14.4, then add one UV at 3.6 and you're right at 18W. Now a Meanwell can take that all day, they're designed to run at actual capacity. But I don't know about your driver. The only time you need a resisitor is when you're doing advanced stuff and running parallel strings where you want to ensure you can measure the current in each leg to balance them out, etc, and usually you'd have fuses that would blow in case one string went out to make sure the other string didn't get 2x the current and blow all the LEDs. So no, you don't need a resistor or a fuse. When you're taking full current in a branch and splitting that between 2 equal LEDs, you don't care about protecting one of those 2 because if one blows, the other just gets the full current (which is is rated to take)
