NEW DIY LED, Expandable design 1 side today 2 side tomorrow,

    So I decided to jump headfirst into building an ATS... we will see.
    I have a 90g reef tank, after doing some reading I "planned"
    4x6in screen,

    4 SemiLED DEEP RED (wired series)
    2 SemiLED Royal Blue (wired parallel then series with red)
    Steves LED Driver (single)
    still working out the heatsink... rather not go with MAKERS.
    Meanwell LPC-35-700.

    My original idea was to create my acrylic ATS to be lit from one side and later down the road if I upgrade my tank or need more scrubbing power I would just add another LED fixture to the other side. What do you guys think? any further suggestions...?

    any suggestion on LED distance from .25acrylic ATS wall and distance from LED to screen?

    LEDs should be no closer than about 1/2" to the acrylic, maybe a bit more. It only really matters for the higher intensity LEDs like Royal Blues if you use those - they will cause the acrylic to craze over time

    I don't have any experience with SemiLED Deep Reds, my preference is for Phillips for these, but SemiLED is a good brand, reliable

    I use the hyper-violets from SemiLED instead of RBs. They aren't as intense as RBs and you don't need much supplementary blue anyway, so I would recommend HVs over RBs

    I have a box of this exact heat sink from when I used these to make my Rev 1 :cool::)

    well... im already on my Rev 1 and I havnt even build rev (-)
    approx. 2in from screen to acrylic wall ok?

    switching to 2 sided lighting
    each side,
    5 SemiLED DEEP RED
    1 HVs
    Steves LED Driver? (other recommended dimming drivers)
    5.886" Wide Extruded Aluminum Heatsink - sounds like a good choice
    Meanwell LPC-35-700.

    I do 2"-2.5" from LED to screen with acrylic in between.
    I'll have to ask Steve's about the VioSys HV. However since you really only need to run at 1/2 power, the efficiency probably doesn't matter much. Price, maybe.

    well ive been looking at the HVs I can buy, I was hoping to keep the cost down... any recommended alternatives?

    Apparently the VioSys are much better across the board. So you're fine with either the VioSys or the SemiLED ones

    That's a constant voltage (CV) power supply, most use constant current (CC). Unless you have a driver board that requires CV (like my current driver board on my units) then you would have to stick with a CC.

    so im using steves dual LED driver . so I think I should be ok... turned down to like 15V or something.....

    As long as you match the power supply to the necessary input voltage, you're fine with that setup. Steve's makes my driver boards, custom, but the same principle. Check with them, they're very helpful in telling you what voltage would be optimal given the LED array you are driving. Total voltage drop across the array is the primary factor. Their drivers typically can take 24V input but if you have a fixed array and only need 15V, then 15V will work (and minimize heat loss from their board)

    So he is my scrubber week 1 growth.
    Stats, 5deepreds 2 parallel royal blue.
    3 pipefish 1 clown 1 foxface 1 tomini tang 1 vlaminge 1 diamond goby 1 yellow clown goby 1 damsel. Feed 2 pinch flakes 1 pellets and frozen every other day.
    I have gha in my display tank everywhere

    Running ats st 60% light 7am to 8pm

    That's looking good. I do see a lot of growth at the slot/screen junction, so watch out for streamers, it's inevitable. A light blocker would prevent that.

    Ok cool. Im working on brainstorming an idea now, i cant spend any more $ or id try and buy your lightblocker thing. Might just 3d print one if i can cause my friend has one.

    A few weeks now 4am to 8pm ~70% light 3weeks growth, (i realize too long) any suggestions?
