Just wondering about what would happen if you left an algae scrubber in a tank that is no longer being fed (if fish were removed). I'm going to set up a very small tank with a sloped scrubber for the sole purpose of growing pods. Once I get a decent amount of algae growth, I'm contemplating just not removing the algae, and no longer adding food/nutrients to the water. I assume that some of the algae will die from lack of nutrients, but then the nutrients released into the water from the algae dying should in theory feed the algae, right? If I'm just harvesting the copepods, I should only need to feed a small amount per week to replace the copepods removed. If I don't have any large pieces of live rock, or any at all, then there shouldn't be any lost nutrients through anaerobic bacteria. Thoughts?
You must scrape the screen on a scrubber or algal succession will take over. Gonna post a few pics on my thread of a scrubber that hasn't been scrubbed, trust me, it don't work
I had a little 15 gallon that I wanted to start up but never did. I threw in some algae just for the heck of it and the algae never grew but never died. I also threw in some of that red dragon tongue stuff (because it grew like crazy in my other tank). It got a little bit more thin but it also never died either.
