Have you seen that Cree now finally has a 660 nm LED? It's in the XP-E family and is called "Photo red".
That interesting, I'll have to check that out. I toured their Racine, WI factory this year and I asked them if they were going to produce a Deep Red, and they says they had no plans to do so. And that came from one of the top brass at that facility.
