   No updates on this from SM on his site, but for anyone interested in keeping up with the status of his application, it's all right here:

   Looks like this one is split up all over the place. Oh well like anyone was really going to use it anyways, sounds way too complex to get another 2% growth.

   From what I can gather from that, he wants to patent using a colour sensor to determine the amount of algae growth, and set the light level accordingly?
   
   That's something I thought about a while ago, but like you say, cool in theory, impractical in reality.

   Yeah I'm pretty sure that's what the idea is. Sense the color and adjust flow and light photoperiod accordingly, maybe notify if it's ready or harvest, something along those lines.
