Lower the horizontal section as low as you can, and extend the emergency bypass up as high as you can, then go from vertical to horizontal with an elbow into the side of a tee which is 2 sizes larger, leave top of tee open and extend pipe down to sump. This allows pressure to be maintained on the slot and avoids a siphon situation
