Dear All,

I am working on my own version of 2-part (based on Jimmy54 work), it is pretty much finished, however I will be using an algae scrubber as the only source of filtration (still breaking in at the moment).. an would like to tweak potassium/iodine/iron concentrations in the stock solutions. I wondered if potassium consumption and iron consumption can be linked to the size of the screen. Apart from that I heard iodide will build up if no skimmer is used?

I would like to know more...

I asked the manufacturer of the "dutch synthetic reefing" method his opinion on ATS systems. He explained algae releases compounds that may affect sps corals. Apart from that, he has never seen an sps dominated aquarium do really well with an ATS-only system. Apart from that, Julian Sprung recently released this video;

I've noticed a trend. When someone replaces a mature algae scrubber screen with a new screen, or if they pitch their current scrubber and build a new one (even with different lights, flow, size, etc) that the screen tends to either mature very quickly and/or grows green very quickly. Both volume and color happen rather quickly.

This is in contrast to what many consider the "normal" maturing stage of a scrubber: the screen gets covered in a brown coating - sometimes just a coloration,...

So, I was at our club's Spring Fest a few weekends ago and I had a great discussion with one of the speakers afterwards (Justin Credabel) regarding the role of Potassium in the reef aquarium. His presentation was mainly related to Goniopora species and I didn't get a chance to hear all of it, but when I heard him talking about K my ears perked up so I grabbed him afterwards.

Basically, he told me that it's pretty hard to OD on K. He has ran tanks at 900-1000ppm and seen no negative side...
I thought the ATS would also help with cyno, but not so far. What have others seen or done?
